Alder Creek Falls are one of Yosemite’s least-visited falls.

Rattlers must seek shelter to keep cool on hot days.

At about 3 miles the trail becomes an abandoned railroad bed, used by the Sugar Pine Lumber Company to cut and haul away most of the big old-growth sugar pines in the region. Within a few minutes you will begin to hear the falls ahead. Round a corner and the entire waterfall from top to bottom appears. You may be tempted to slide and scramble down the slope to the base of the falls, but it is very steep and unstable. Enjoy it from your perfect viewpoint above. Continue along the road and finally reach upper Alder Creek above the falls, crossing little tributary creeks in spring. You can continue along the creek for miles and will see lots of tempting camping spots, all of which are much too close to the water to be legal.

Return the way you came.
